74th Annual Conference of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges
Hilton New York, 1335 Avenue of the Americas (6th Ave. & 53rd St.), New York, NY 10019 Sunday, July 24 to Wednesday, July 27, 2011

The National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges is the organization that runs "judge school" in Reno, NV. More than 600 family court judges and court staff from all over the country will be in mid-town Manhattan for this conference. No, we don't want anyone to pay to attend. We're just letting you know about it because it will be a great opportunity for noncustodial parents to let family court judges, the public, and the local, national and international news media know what we think of their anti-family policies and how they should be changed. We have heard rumors that some very high profile demonstrators will be there. Come on out, and bring your t-shirts, your picket signs, and your camera.

Most conference activities will be at the hotel on Monday July 25th and Tuesday July 26th. Some other specific demonstration opportunities where conference attendees and their spouses and guests will be present:

  • Sunday July 24th, 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM - Conference arrival and registration. Demonstrators can give conference attendees a big "welcome" to New York City.
  • Monday July 25th, 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM - Walking tour of the Broadway theater district and Times Square.
  • Monday July 25th, 7:05 PM - Yankees vs. Mariners at Yankee Stadium.
  • Tuesday July 26th, 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM - Lunch on own in hotel area.

For official information about the conference see Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges website or download event brochure here . For more info about public demonstrations at the conference, check with your own noncustodial parents' rights group or watch this site for updates.

Update 7/20/2011 -- FACE has received word from Fathers4Justice, renowned for their high-profile public demonstrations that feature super-hero characters and attract media attention, that their members and supporters from all across the country will be converging on this family court judges' conference in New York City to "Bring Justice 4 Judges" and "demand a change to the corruption within America's anti-family courts." Come out and show your support for Fathers4Justice. See F4J's website here .

Update 7/24/2011 -- More demonstration opportunities: Fathers' rights advocates have infiltrated the conference. We just learned that U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder will be a speaker on Monday July 25th between 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM, and that U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Elena Kagan will be there on Wednesday July 27th.

Follow-Up 7/28/2011 -- Protesters came from all over the country and made their presence known to the judges. FACE people demonstrated every day of the conference. International Men's Day
Friday, November 19, 2010

The first International Men's Day was observed at the Missouri Center for Men's Studies at the University of Missouri – Kansas City in 1994.  The first international observance was in Trinidad and Tobago in 1999.  It has been recognized by UNESCO since 2001, and is now observed in 32 countries as a day to:

  • Promote positive male role models; not just movie stars and sports men but everyday, working class men who are living decent, honest lives.
  • Celebrate men’s positive contributions to society, community, family, marriage, child care, and to the environment.
  • Focus on men’s health and wellbeing; social, emotional, physical and spiritual.
  • Highlight discrimination against men; in areas of social services, social attitudes and expectations, and law.
  • Improve gender relations and promote gender equality.
  • Create a safer, better world; where people can be safe and grow to reach their full potential.

See the official global website:  www.international-mens-day.com
... and the Australian site:  www.internationalmensday.com

Regardless of these lofty objectives, in the United States, where the stereotype of men is embodied by Homer Simpson, International Men's Day is not widely celebrated and has not received official recognition as a holiday.

FACE'S CHALLENGE TO YOU:  How should we celebrate International Men's Day in the United States and particularly in New Jersey?  What can we do to get International Men's Day officially recognized as a holiday?  Click here for some suggestions from Warwick Marsh of Dads4Kids Fatherhood Foundation in Australia:  http://vimeo.com/7444098  Email your ideas to  info@facenj.org .  Please put "International Men's Day" in the subject line.  Let us know whether you will be available for the celebration on November 19, 2010.

Follow-up December 2010 -- Why is International Men's Day celebrated worldwide in 32 countries and no one in the United States can organize an event to recognize and honor the importance of men?  Why are men so apathetic that they won't even do anything to honor their own gender?  Maybe next year someone will do something in the U.S.  You plan the event; FACE will support it.

Canadian Symposium for Parental Alienation Syndrome
Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Stern Auditorium, Annenberg Building, 2nd Floor
1468 Madison Ave., New York, NY 10029
Saturday October 2 and Sunday October 3, 2010

The mission of Canadian Symposium for Parental Alienation Syndrome is to help educate professionals in the identification of Parental Alienation and Parental Alienation Syndrome and to help the public find the professionals that have an expertise in this field. Their main goal is to assist children that need intervention and treatment solutions.  All of the speakers are experts in Parental Alienation - from the field's of Psychology, Psychiatry and Family Law.

Click here for symposium website:  http://www.cspas.ca/

Update 7/31/2010 -- If you are unfamiliar with Parental Alienation Disorder, or if you have experienced PAD as an alienated parent but didn't know it has a name, CSPAS defines it this way:

"Parental Alienation Disorder has been defined as a mental condition in which a child, usually one whose parents are engaged in a high conflict divorce, allies himself or herself strongly with one parent, ( the preferred parent ), and rejects a relationship with the other parent, ( the alienated parent ), without legitimate justification. The child’s maladaptive behavior & refusal to see one of the parents is driven by the false belief that the alienated parent is a dangerous or an unworthy person."

If you are already familiar with PAD, you probably are also aware that it's detractors, including many psychologists, women's groups, lawyers and judges, claim it doesn't exist or it is "junk science."  Some jurisdictions do not even allow the words "Parental Alienation Disorder" to be said in court.   The CSPAS press release goes on to say:

"The American Psychiatric Association is now giving consideration to Parental Alienation Disorder ( P.A.D.) for inclusion in the next edition of the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders, more often referred to as the DSM-5." . . . "Inclusion of P.A.D. in the A.P.A.'s diagnostic book will go a long way towards creating awareness and helping children and families affected by this disorder."

This CSPAS conference will focus on Parental Alienation Disorder and on getting it included in DSM-5.  For those effected by PAD, this may be the most important conference you can attend during your child's childhood.

Follow-up 10/4/2010 --  The Canadian Symposium for Parental Alienation Syndrome this past weekend was a wonderful opportunity to get the latest updates on PAS from psychologists, psychiartists, lawyers and others who are on the front lines every day.  Topics included PAS and mind control, techniques for legal battles against PA, identifying and diagnosing PA, forensic evaluations vs. traditional psychotherapy to help alienated children, and current efforts to get Parental Alienation into DSM-5.  The Associated Press did an article on the current status of PAS and the conference, which appeared over the weekend in newspapers and other news media accross the country, and can be seen here:  www.msnbc.msn.com/id/39463768/ns/health-mental_health/ .  This was also an opportunity for hundreds of professionals and others involved with child custody issues around the world to meet and network.

Fatherless Day Rally
Statehouse, 125 West State St, Trenton NJ 08608
Friday, June 18, 2010 (the Friday before Fathers Day), 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM

FACE celebrated Fatherless Day at the State House and the Hughes Justice Center in Trenton beginning in the 1990s.  Fathers4Justice has since adopted this as their own annual nationwide event.  Their 3rd Annual Fatherless Day Rallies are planned at all 50 state capitols, with a morning of lobbying and speakers and rally in the afternoon.

For more information contact F4J through their webpage:  www.fathers-4-justice.us/index.php?id=events&type=1
... and see the video for their 2008 rally:  www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggMNUQ4Nc5U .

Update 6/10/2010 -- Fathers4Justice of New Jersey has secured permits for the Trenton NJ rally from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM on the front steps of the Statehouse.  A podium and sound system will be available for those wishing to speak of their dissatisfaction with the family courts.  Bring your own picket signs (no sticks, please) for issues important to you, or use one of ours.  There is strength in numbers.  Even if you don't want to speak and prefer not to carry a picket sign, be there.

Follow-up 6/18/2010 -- Photos of Fatherless Day rally in Trenton NJ:

Master of ceremonies Gary Ewing                                                               Speaker Jim O'Brien

From left: Ed Kilbourne, Inder Kainth, Joe Cain and his children Rebecca, Rachel and Ben, Jim O'Brien, Clay Leopold, Gary Ewing, Jeff Golden and Dave Fischer.  Also attending but not in pictured: Len Colner, Bill Gibbons, Moshe Levy, Jeff Rowse, Nick and his lady friend.

A suggestion to event organizers from FACE:  New Jersey has a part-time legislature.  There is no legislative office building in Trenton.  Legislators have offices only in their own districts.  The legislature is usually in session on Mondays and Thursdays, and there is very little activity at the capitol on other days.  This event would receive much more attention in New Jersey if it were held on the Thursday before Fathers Day.

Domestic Violence Spring Cleaning
Washington DC
Wednesday May 5 to Friday May 7, 2010

Our families and our Constitutionally Protected Civil Rights are being put at risk by the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA).  Although acts defined in the law as "domestic violence" are committed about equally by men and women, and although men and women are victims of these acts with equal frequency, the effect of these laws has been to treat men primarily as perpetrators and women primarily as victims, and provide almost no services to male victims of domestic violence.  Both laws are up for renewal in the next year.  This event provides an organized opportunity for you to let lawmakers know of the damage that is being done and how these laws can be fixed.

To register and participate, see  http://abusegate.mensnewsdaily.com/dv-spring-cleaning-register-now/ .

You will be meeting with congressional staffers, and possibly with the Senators and Congressmen themselves.  Event organizers will expect you to be professionally dressed and presentable, and able to present the issues politely, intelligently and informatively.  To prepare yourself in advance, please see the following:

Stop Abusive and Violent Environments (SAVE)  www.saveservices.org

www.mediaradar.org/docs/RADARreport-50-DV-Myths.pdf

Follow-up 5/9/2010 -- About twenty volunteer lobbyists fanned out over Capitol Hill on Thursday 5/6 and Friday 5/7 to attend pre-scheduled meetings with congressional staffers.  They distributed SAVE's report "Assaulting our Rights: How Domestic Violence Laws Curtail our Fundamental Freedoms"  www.saveservices.org/downloads/SAVE-Assault-Civil-Rights , distributed about 1,000 of SAVE's "The New Jim Crow: Ignoring civil rights, shortchanging victims" flyers, and also dropped in at congress offices that had not responded to the meeting request.  Initial assessment of staffers' responses indicate a strong majority ranged from noncommital to openly supportive, with only a minority disapproving.  This was also a networking opportunity for U.S. and international men's issues advocates.  See what Men's News Daily reports:  http://abusegate.mensnewsdaily.com/
